My thoughts and views on world issues, national issues, local issues, music, football, my life and the strangely beautiful, yet fallen, world around me
I know who I would rather share time with

I have noticed a trend in the two different types of posters on this site.

One side are prepared to strongly debate their argument, giving time for the opposing voices to be heard and considered.

The other side label people as "liberals" at the first show of disagreement and then set their views in stone about what this person thinks and believes, spiralling down into personal attacks.

Is this fair assessment?

nope.

Well, I have just been accused of being a wife beater on another forum, so I might beg to differ

nope you have your "facts" reversed.

and whom ever labeled you with that foul name is a jerk and should be ignored.

I believe he also labelled me a liberal

Oh, yeah, I see your point. People who make generalizations by 'sides' aren't making a worthy argument, right? Hmmm... odd, given that is exactly what you are doing. Liberals here at JU are all thoughtful, and conservatives are all judgemental, right? Or am I not understanding you?

You'll find that these titles aren't insults, they actually mean something. If someone is conservative, they adhere to a conservative philosophy. If you wander in and start preaching from a Liberal pulpit, don't be surprised when people label you a Liberal.

We are what we do, not what we say we claim to be. The 'beat your wife' thing wasn't an insult, it was quote making a valid point. You just choose to see it as an insult and ignore the point. That IS something you'll see here quite a bit when people find themselves on the wrong side of an issue...

So... you're abandoning your unsupported blanket judgement that Conservatives at JU make unsupported blanket judgements about Liberals who don't make unsupported blanket judgements?

A shame. The logic of your point was like a really trippy Escher painting. I was clamoring to see where it would go next...

Sorry Vune, I should not label you a liberal. However, I do believe you have some very liberal-ish views. I have not labled you a Democrat, however, should I ever do so, feel free to assume that you have been officially insulted.

BTW, you weren't labled a wife beater, an analogy was being attempted.

However, using that logic I was called a terrorist and a monster.

So far, this is exactly what I see. Any liberal viewpoint is immediately pounced upon by the conservatives here with a nasty condescension, calling liberals a bunch of names, like "loony" or "luddite" or "misinformed" or "ignorant", even going so far as to call people traitorous, which is absurd. And, what's with the "luddite" thing anyway? That one has me totally confused.

Talk about righty spin........ Oh migod, this is really exactly what I see right wingers do all the time, both here and on TV and the radio. Spin and spin and spin until the original point is lost completely, and a whole other message gets spewed forth. Well done, Bakerstreet.

If you don't see the irony in a blogger whining about being falsely labeled while he offhandedly labels an entire 'side' of JU, you're either blind or being purposefully obtuse.

It is either a strawman argument, or he doesn't spend much time here. Many of us spend a lot of time backing up what we say, only to have people like dabe wander in and call us neo-con assholes.

P.S. Nice with the 'righty' thing, and not bothering to do anything but jab. Your post proves perfectly that his theory above is patently flawed. Or are you just the exception to the rule?

"Our Soldiers are not terrorists. They are not monsters. The follow standards and guidelines. Those who don't, are prosecuted."

Interesting how you can turn that comment about the conduct of our Soldiers in our detention centers into a personal insult against you.

In fact, from the very beginning of my correspondence with you on that blog you began labeling me and using negative buzzwords (that had no bearing on our discussion, btw) to describe me.

I apologize if you were offended by my words. I disagree with you, and that is as far as it goes. I don't know you and won't presume to judge your character.

It was a wholly inappropriate analogy and also was badly thought out if the person making it thought that they could play around with the area of this and not cause offence.

People need to watch their words
